Weekly Portfolio Performance Chart

Equity Markets:

The equity markets witnessed extreme volatility this week, culminating in a spectacular Friday comeback. After suffering heavy losses earlier in the week—including a severe 1.6% crash on Thursday—the benchmark indices staged a massive relief rally on Friday. The Sensex surged nearly 880 points on the final trading day, helping the markets recover most of their weekly losses, driven by strong tech earnings and easing geopolitical fears.

Key Market Triggers

  • Q2 Earnings & IT Sector Rally: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) kicked off the Q2 FY27 earnings season on a highly positive note, reporting a 4% QoQ rise in net profit to ₹13,884 crore. The stock jumped over 5.4%, triggering a massive short-covering rally across the Nifty IT index (which surged over 2.2% on Friday). Infosys and Tech Mahindra also saw heavy buying interest, brushing aside concerns over US Green Card program suspensions.
  • Easing Geopolitical Tensions & Crude Oil: Global oil markets breathed a sigh of relief after reports indicated that the US would not initiate strikes against Iran ahead of the upcoming US elections, citing progress in diplomatic talks. Consequently, Brent crude fell back toward the $103.50 per barrel mark, significantly easing domestic inflation and import bill anxieties.
  • FII Selling vs. Value Buying: Surging US Treasury yields continued to drain foreign capital from Asian equities throughout the week, causing the steep sell-off on Thursday. However, lower valuations attracted aggressive domestic value buying on Friday, particularly in FMCG (like ITC) and Banking heavyweights (like HDFC Bank).
