Weekly Portfolio Performance Chart

Equity Markets:

The equity markets extended their losing streak for a seventh consecutive week, marking the longest continuous weekly decline for Indian equities since the February–March 2020 Covid-19 crash. Although the benchmark indices managed a modest rebound on Friday, intense selling pressure earlier in the week—highlighted by a severe 1.5% market crash on Thursday—kept the broader structural trend firmly in the red.

Key Market Triggers

  • Elevated Crude Oil & Geopolitics: Volatile crude prices, buoyed by the ongoing Middle East conflict and hopes for a US-Iran truce, kept market recovery capped. Concerns over inflation and the broader impact of energy costs on corporate margins remained intact.
  • Global Yields & Outflows: High US bond yields and persistent foreign fund outflows continued to temper global risk appetite. These external pressures weighed heavily on emerging market currencies and drained secondary market liquidity.
  • Thursday's Crash & Friday's Rebound: Markets suffered a steep drop on Thursday (crashing over 1.5%), but Friday witnessed selective bargain hunting at lower valuations. The Auto, Realty, and Consumer Durables sectors attracted solid buying interest, helping the Nifty successfully defend the psychological 23,000 mark.
