Weekly Portfolio Performance Chart

Equity Markets:

The Indian equity markets extended their losing streak for the fifth consecutive week, ending with a cautious and range-bound session on Friday. Despite some intraday recovery attempts fueled by easing crude oil prices, the frontline indices closed the week with moderate losses, weighed down by persistent foreign fund outflows, a notable sell-off in the IT sector, and the overarching macroeconomic impact of a US Federal Reserve rate hike.

Key Market Triggers

  • US Fed Rate Hike: The US Federal Reserve's decision to hike interest rates significantly impacted global investor sentiment, keeping the US dollar strong and triggering a sharp drop in gold prices. The move kept pressure on emerging market equities, reinforcing a "sell on rise" mentality.
  • Easing Crude Oil Concerns: Providing some much-needed relief to the markets, Brent crude prices softened back toward the $100–$105 per barrel range following reports that Saudi Arabia could route additional supply through alternative export channels, helping to ease immediate inflation fears.
  • FII Selling vs. DII Buying: Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained aggressive net sellers for the seventh consecutive session, draining liquidity. However, this was fiercely countered by Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs), who continued a remarkable buying streak for a 27th consecutive session, preventing a steeper market collapse and absorbing the foreign outflows.
  • IT Sector Drag: Heavyweight Information Technology stocks faced significant selling pressure, particularly on Friday. TCS dropped over 3%, with Tech Mahindra and Infosys also experiencing notable weakness, effectively capping the broader market's upside attempts.
