Weekly Portfolio Performance Chart

Equity Markets:

The Indian stock market faced significant selling pressure during the week, breaking the recovery momentum seen in the previous week. The benchmark indices experienced a steady decline, driven primarily by weakness in the banking sector and unfavorable global cues.

Key Market Triggers

  • The Banking Drag: Financial services emerged as the biggest sectoral loser. Heavyweights like Axis Bank and HDFC Bank fell sharply early in the week following their Q1 earnings announcements, as investors grew cautious over the possibility of compressed net interest margins in the coming quarters.
  • Global Tech Sell-Off: A sharp sell-off in US markets—specifically in semiconductor and technology stocks—spilled over into Indian IT counters, dampening the broader market sentiment.
  • Geopolitical Tensions & Crude Oil: Intensifying conflicts in the Middle East pushed Brent crude oil prices above $90 per barrel, reaching their highest level in over a month. For India, a major oil importer, rising crude prices renewed inflation fears and concerns over a widening import bill.
