The week began on a positive note but ended with net losses, snapping a prior winning streak. The Indian stock market endured a challenging week with significant volatility driven by US trade tensions and global uncertainties. The Nifty 50 closed Friday at 24426.85, down approximately 600 points from recent highs.

US Tariff Impact
The most significant development was President Trump's implementation of additional 25% tariffs on Indian goods, bringing total tariffs to 50%. This severely impacted:
  • Export-oriented sectors including textiles, gems & jewelry, and seafood
  • IT services companies faced uncertainty over future earnings
  • Market sentiment turned bearish on trade war concerns
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)
  • Heavy selling continued with net outflows of ₹38,590 crores for August month-to-date
  • Daily selling ranged from ₹1,600 to ₹6,500 crores during the week
  • Year-to-date outflows reached approximately ₹1.57 lakh crores
Global Events
  • The US economy grow at annual rate of 3.3% in Q2 compared to -0.5% previous quarter Q1

In August 2025Models 1 and 3 returned -0.88 percent, and -0.58 percent respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's -1.38 percent return.

In August 2025, the Nifty Long-Short is up +8.76 percent.

For the Year 2024 Model 1, 3 and Nifty Long Short returned +25%+45%, and +76% respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's return of +9%. 

For Financial Year 2024-2025 
Model 1, 3 and Nifty Long Short returned -2.75%, +10.33% and +147.49% respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's return of +5.34%.
 

Year To Date - 2025

Models 1 and 3 returned -21.61 percent and -10.29 percent respectively, compared to Nifty's +3.31 percent return for 2025.

The Nifty Long-Short year-to-date return (from January 1, 2025) is now +36.13 percent, compared to the Index's +3.31 percent.

Summary since inception

Since its debut, Model 1 has increased by 211 percent. The Nifty index has risen by 126 percent  over the same time span.

Since its debut, the Nifty long-short strategy has increased by 631 percent on the capital and 1169 percent on the margin money.

Model 1 has been operational since July 13, 2020, whereas the Index Long-Short strategy has been operational since August 14, 2020. 

Since the inception, Model 3 is up +124%, compared to 103% for the Nifty Midcap Index. 
Model 3 has been operational since July 12th, 2021.
