It was a relatively calm week with upside moves in the Nifty Index compared to last week's extremely volatile move. RBI has decided to the gradual withdrawal of incremental CRR requirement. India's GDP growth rate for Q1 2023 comes at 7.8%, which aligns with the market expectation. The CPI reading for India for July increased sharply to 7.44% from 4.81% in June, on the back of higher Food Inflation. India's GDP growth rate for the final three months of FY 2023 was 6.1%, and for the entire year, it was 7.2%, exceeding the forecasted figure of 7%. Fitch has cut the US government sovereign rating to AA+ from AAA, which spoked the global market. The last time was in 2011 when the rating agency cut the sovereign rating of the US. The Fed has increased the Fed rate by 25 bps to 5.5%.  

Nifty closed above the 20 EMA, 50 DMA, and 200 DMA.

In August 2023Models 1, and 3 returned +6.98 percent, and +3.56 percent respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's -2.53 percent return.

In August 2023, the Nifty Long-Short is down -13.25 percent.

For the year 2022 (1st January 2022 - 30 December 2021), Model 1, 3, and Nifty Long-Short returned -17.87%, -3.31%, and +31.43%, respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's return of +4.27%.

Year To Date - 2023

Models 1, and 3 returned +22.06 percent, and +20.45 percent respectively, compared to Nifty's +9.47 percent return for 2023.

The Nifty Long-Short year-to-date return (from January 1, 2023) is now -10.66 percent, compared to the Index's +9.47 percent.

From July 12th, 2021, the Model 3 is up +41%, compared to 49% for the Nifty Midcap Index.

Summary since inception 

Since its debut, Model 1 has increased by 175 percent. The Nifty index has risen by 83 percent over the same time span.

Since its debut, the Nifty long-short strategy has returned 107 percent on capital and 198 percent on margin money.

Model 1 has been operational since July 13, 2020, whereas the Index Long-Short strategy has been operational since August 14, 2020. Model 3 has been operating since July 12, 2021.
