The Nifty Indices has experienced extremely high volatility this week and this year. Let's break down what happened!
Weekly recap:
Nifty mid and small cap indices recovered their low from last week.
Remember these are much small companies with lower volumes. We see a much higher volatility in these companies.
Nifty Midcap 100 Index is up +4.48 percent.
Nifty index on the other hand was not as volatile, though we saw positive movement.
This week, the Nifty index is up +1.68 percent.

Model 1, Model 2 & Model 3
This week, Model 1 is up +4.19 percent, and Model 3 is down -0.68 percent.
Model 1 has outperformed the Index by +2.51 percent and Model 3 has underperformed the Index by -5.16 percent.
Nifty Long-Short
The Long-Short strategy for the Nifty Index has returned a negative result of -9.35 percent this week.

In December 2022, Models 1, and 3 returned -7.80 percent, and -7.86 percent respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's -3.48 percent return.
In December 2022, the Nifty Long-Short is down -5.92 percent.
For the year 2022 (1st January 2022 - 30 December 2021), Model 1, 3, and Nifty Long-Short returned -17.87%, -3.31%, and +31.43%, respectively, compared to the Nifty 50 Index's return of +4.27%.

We've reached the end of the calendar year 2022. Despite incredible volatility, the market remained flat this year. The Nifty Index fluctuated between lows of 15183 and highs of 18887.
This year, the FIIs become a net seller.
You have to remember that countries across the world are undergoing a recession. The US market is under a lot of stress and the economy is no longer supported by low interest rates.
Models 1, and 3 returned -17.87 percent, and -3.31 percent respectively, compared to Nifty's +4.27 percent return for the year 2022.
The Nifty Long-Short year-to-date return (as of January 1, 2022) is now +31.43 percent, compared to the Index's +4.27 percent.
From July 12th, 2021, the Model 3 is up +17%, compared to 15% for the Nifty Midcap Index.
Summary since inception
Since its debut, Model 1 has increased by 126 percent. The Nifty index has increased by 68 percent over the same time span.
Since its debut, the Nifty long-short strategy has returned 131 percent on capital and 243 percent on margin money.
Model 1 has been operational since July 13, 2020, whereas the Index Long-Short strategy has been operational since August 14, 2020. Model 3 has been operational since July 12, 2021.
