Weekly Portfolio Performance Chart

Equity Markets:

The equity markets extended their corrective phase early in the week, snapping a five-day losing streak with a sharp recovery on Thursday. Overall, the frontline indices closed the week with marginal losses in a volatile, range-bound environment heavily influenced by energy cost pressures and global headwinds.

Key Market Triggers

  • Elevated Crude Oil & Geopolitics: Unresolved conflicts in the Middle East and a lack of progress on a US-Iran peace deal kept Brent crude prices elevated around the $89 per barrel mark early in the week. This energy-led pressure weighed heavily on investor sentiment, acting as a major headwind for Indian equities.
  • Banking & Financial Recovery: After severe selling pressure early in the week, a strong wave of institutional buying in private banking giants (such as Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank) on Thursday helped the market establish a firm support base and halt the broader market slide.
  • Earnings Resilience vs. Input Costs: Stronger-than-expected Q1FY27 earnings provided a cushion against steeper market corrections. However, markets remain cautious about whether these profit margins can be sustained into Q2 given the rising energy input costs.
